Welcome to Lou-Davis.com, documenting my attempt to become the best possible version of myself. Follow my personal reality show each month as I embark on a new Lou! Challenge in order to reach my personal goals, entertain and inspire my readers.
Current Challenge: This month, the biggest event seems to be the Ex-GF publishing a book story. You can find those now-infamous posts here:
Post #2: Train Wrecks and Awkward
Past Challenges:
- The 30 Day Challenge. Followed the plan to be a better man from one of my favorite blogs (www.artofmanliness.com) every day for one month. Completed various parts of 2010.
- (Half) Marathon — Completed MARCH 2010! Ran the ING Atlanta half-marathon in late March 2010, coming in right at my goal of 10 minute mile pace. Training began January 2010, including Cross-Fit training along the way.
- Music Month — Culminated APRIL 9-11, 2010, but still a work in progress. Songwriting and recording with friends in Cincinnati.
- Lou is the new Black – October 2009. After losing 30 pounds, none of my clothes fit anymore! Here’s the detail on how I completely remade my wardrobe, complete with before and afters, and a budget of what I spent.
- P90X – Started August 31st, 2009. My attempt to get in incredible shape before my 30th birthday by following the intensive P90X system as seen on TV. Lost 30 pounds, and continue to use the P90X system to stay in shape.
- No Alcohol or Coffee – A 45 day vacation from two of my favorite vices. Completed 3rd Quarter 2009.
Future Challenges:
- Write a Book/Novel/Screenplay/etc — Originally intended to be based on the National Novel Writing Month (Also known as NaNoWriMo) concept, this will likely become a much larger undertaking. Tentative title: “5,000 Days of Single.” TBD 2011
- Make $25,000 in 30 Days — A crazy effort to raise enough money to pay off my car loan in 30 days, with all proceeds coming outside of my day job. Some ideas taken from the first season of Apprentice, other from The 4-Hour Workweek, and other ideas coming from you, the reader. TBD 2011
- Physical Challenge! — I have three big fitness goals: Touch the rim (or dunk a basketball), successfully perform the crane pose in yoga, and complete a muscle-up. Inspired by the new Tim Ferriss book, The Four-Hour Body, I’ll try to push my body to the limit.
- Alpha Man Month — A month to learn skills like those in Neil Strauss’ Emergency, or in the Omnivore’s Dilemma. From CERT Training, to hunting, survivalism, etc. TBD 2011
- Media Fast – Inspired by something I read by AJ Jacobs, I’m going to take 30 days away from all TV, Movies, and (non-work related) internet surfing. Let’s wait until after football season.
TBD 2011 - Mastery Month — One month to dedicate to learning new things. Dance lessons, wine courses, guitar lessons, voice lessons, yoga training, going to seminars, etc. A rough idea, I realize, but it could have some lasting positive effects if done correctly. TBD
- Go Vegan – 30 Days of a totally Vegan lifestyle. Perhaps I’ll rethink this one; I’m quite sure I’m a carnivore. TBD
- Learn a new language — …and then travel to that nation at the end of the month! TBD
